GIF and animated WebP/PNG also open, as a static frame (the first one — motion isn’t kept). TIFF opens using a small local decoder. ICO opens when its largest image is stored as PNG, which is true of most modern icon files. HEIC/HEIF (the usual iPhone photo format) opens in Safari; other browsers don’t yet support decoding it locally.
About this tool
Compression uses a quality slider for JPG and WebP. PNG is lossless, so there’s no quality to trade off — it’s re-encoded as-is, which can still shrink it a little. Other formats this tool can open — BMP, GIF, SVG, and more — compress down to a WebP file instead, since browsers can’t re-encode them directly.
Dimensions are always kept exactly as they are; only file size changes, and it runs locally on your device.
